Vereins Kirche (Society's Church)

When the first settlers founded the town of Fredericksburg on 8 May 1846, they had to build shelters and provide food for their families. The following year they built the Vereins Kirche which was a community meeting room, church and school until other structures were built. The German settlers called it the Kaffee Mühle, coffee mill, because it resembled the device they used to grind coffee. The original Vereins Kirche was converted to an open pavillion when the stone walls were removed for the 50th anniversary jubilee in 1896. The current replica of the original building was built in 1934.

The Timeline project has been started to show the events related to the early history of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County.

This web site contains genealogical information of the families from Gillespie County, Texas and the surrounding area.
