The following statistics are computed from the information in the Cemetery Index and the Missing Grave Project.

General Numbers

  • Currently there are 229 cemeteries and grave locations included in the Cemetery Index.
  • There are 17,822 individuals in the Cemetery Index and the Missing Graves Project.
  • The 20 most common surnames are Klein, Schmidt, Jung, Crenwelge, Knopp, Gold, Smith, Tatsch, Weber, Weinheimer, Jenschke, Durst, Oehler, Stehling, Hartmann, Schneider, Ahrens, Kneese, Bierschwale and Ottmers.
  • There are 6,277 individuals with a grave photo in the Cemetery Index.
  • There are 2,620 veterans who have been identified in the Veterans of Gillespie County List.

Observations and comments:

  • There are many grave locations of early Gillespie Co. settlers that have not been documented.
  • The large percentage of the 80+ age group in the recent decades is amazing.
